Twitter Domination & Twitter BlogRoll
Twitter is a great tool to use for Internet Marketing as well as great fun to use as well. Why? Well since I’ve got my number of Twitter followers to over 1000 it has accounted for a significant amount fo additional traffic to my website. If you use Twitter to build up good relationships with your followers then I have found many will take an interest in what you are up to on your Blog.
I rarely advertise directly my Blog URL in my Twitter posts, but obviously a lot of people go to my profile where they can then click through to my blog. I urge you to get involved with Twitter. I didn’t get it at first! But I stuck at it and now see the power and potential of it. Here is the tutorial video I promised all Alex Jeffreys Students (but open to everyone of course!) that covers the basics of Twitter plus more advanced topics and some great tools I have found that allowed me to build up my presence in super quick time. You can do it too. Remember it boosts your traffic.
Since recording the video I have just found an even better tool to manage Twitter that is in beta mode at the moment but it is awesome. Please go to the end of the post for more details after viewing the video.
(Click the FAQ page above to find the resources listed in the video)
I’d really appreciate if you left your feedback on the video so please drop me a comment. Good or Bad, I don’t mind as it helps me for when I do my next tutorial video. Now what shall I do that on, hmmmm …. any requests?
The great new tool I have found is called TweetDeck. It is like a control panel for Twitter that allows you to group your followers into separate display sections on the screen as well as having many other very useful features too. It offers far, far more functionality than the standard Twitter home page and better still it is FREE. I am slowly creating a group in TweetDeck that has all the Alex Jeffreys Students (the F500) in one place so that it makes it easy to track and communicate with you separate from all my other Twitter Followers. If you want to follow me on Twitter then click here or little ‘birdie’ on the top right hand-side of my blog page.!!
If you are on Twitter and part of the F500 group then please add a comment with your Twitter-ID on and I can compile a central list (bit like a Twitter BlogRoll) and I can then make it available to everyone so that it makes it easier to communicate via Twitter within the group. So please add your Twitter ID and of course any feedback as well. I’d love to here from everyone, Alex Jeffreys students or not.
Look forward to all the F500 getting on Twitter. Well, I have approaching 300 on my Alex Jeffreys Student BlogRoll so maybe we can aim for that first!!

Hi Garry,
Thanks for the post on Twitter, and the TweetDeck is the way to go! This social networking site is understatedly subtle yet remarkably powerful. Use it as a tool, and be careful not abuse it..or it is off with your head…:-)
Keep Rockin the good stuff Garry! We love all you do for the Alex Tribe!

Wow Lesley,
Your quick off the mark. I’ve not long ago put the new post up and you’ve commented already !!
And I’ve just added you to my F500 group in TweetDeck so I can easily track you now
Hi Garry,
I was considering investigating Tweetdeck, but now you’ve recommended it I’ll definitely be getting it sorted – now to watch your video!
Nix
Jeez Garry!
That is bordering on a bloody movie! LOL!
Will load up and listen while I do other work then watch on the 2nd run through. This is HUGE mate. And I’ll bet it is chokko with the GOODS.
You are a STAR mate – or should I say?… a director! Cecil B Parkes (I know, he’s your Dad!)
Gary
Hi Garry,
It’s late and I’m about to turn in so I’ll save the movie until tomorrow lol.
I have seen tweetdeck and it does look “the business”, it’s on my list of things to do. There is also a new version of twhirl in the offing with some new features. There’s a post about it on my blog (sorry about the plug).
I have also seen a lot of traffic from twitter and that’s without being particularly active. I’m slowly but surely building my follower base.
All of Alex’s students should be involved with twitter, it’s more powerful that you first think. And there are more benefits than just traffic.
Tweet you later!
All the best
Ken
Hi Garry
As usual your blog just rocks with resources and information. I also use twitter but struggle with its use still or shuld I say, understanding it.
Well done for getting your blog on page 1 of Google. For sheer content and generosity it deserves to be no where else. I am now nervously looking over my shoulder.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Gary,
Thanks for creating the video tutorial, Garry.
I am just like Steve at the moment and struggling abit to understand how best to use Twitter.
I realise this is potentially a VERY powerful tool to our arsenal. Not only in generating traffic, but also the ability to directly communicate and build relationships with some of the biggest names in internet marketing and other respected individuals.
I’m thinking in particular ‘Maria Andros’. That lady is certainly using Twitter to it’s full potential. Her videos are packed with useful stuff on IM and Web 2.0. If you haven’t watched the first bonus webinar in AJ’s coaching area then you should. Maria almost gives the store away with all her hints and tips.
I’ve been spending some time trying to understand PayPal and how to make sure any customers of the PPP get access to the video tutorials after purchase. The orange button after payment reads ‘Return To Merchant’, which is not clear that the customer MUST click on the button to get access to the videos. I’ve found out how to change this text so it is obvious they MUST click on it. I’m going to create a post on my blog that explains it all, so other members can make sure their customers know what they need to do to get access to the videos straight-away.
Apologises for the long comment, but I think this is important, to make sure our customers get what they are paying for.
Dave
P.S. My twitter ID is http://twitter.com/davepumfrey
@Nikki – Tweetdeck is brilliant. It is still in beta and has one or 2 bugs in it but nothing of great concern. Wish I’d knew about it when I first started. Hey –
make sure everyone includes their own Twitter-Ids on this thread so that I can compile the “Twitter Blogroll” for us all to communicate better.
@Gary – Originally I was thinking my video would comfortably be less than 10 minutes so I could load it on YouTube. But alas, there was too much to talk about. I suppose I could have split it in two. What do people think? Is 1 better than 2?
@Ken –
Absolutely TRUE. People have got to get into this. I didn’t get it at first and totally discounted it which was a mistake. Get in on it now. It was featured on the Jonathon Ross show last Friday and also on BBC Breakfast television so this is going to soon really get into the mainstream media and grow even more and more.
Hey, no need to apologize about the ‘plug’. If you have free information to share than that is what blogging is all about.
@Steve – Stick with it. Like I say I really struggled with it. I think that is partly because they Twitter Home page is ‘missing things’ you assume should be there. Get TweetDeck downloaded it will make things a lot more friendlier and intuitive.
Also come back and add your Twitter-ID. That is one pain about Twitter, it is hard to search it to find people you want to add when you just have a name, hence why it is best everyone leaves their Twitter Id’s here.
I have absolutely loads of visitors to my Blog each day now – far more than the initial F500 so make yourself visible to a wider audience by leaving your Twitter-Id here.
Thanks for the congratulations on me getting on the first page of Google. I’ve bascically just applied the knowledge I picked up from the course I purchase last year and mentioned in my SEO post. Still working through the material though as it is jammed packed with information so I aim to go higher, a lot higher
@Dave – Same comments above apply. You really do need to stick with Twitter and ignore the initial reservations. Many people have said they have struggled with getting traffic. This is an important, VERY important, piece of the Traffic jigsaw.
I’m sure the Paypal post will be of interest to many.
Hi Garry,
Feel free to track me big guy

Hey Garry,
I’m sure by now you know my Twitter ID – but for your convenience it’s Minxywitch…
Enjoy!!

Tommy/Nikki
I’m tracking you both already as I think you know from our frequent exchanges, LOL.
It’s still good you get your Twitter-Ids down here as like I say, within Twitter it is pretty cumbersome to seach and locate people. Any F500′s reading this will easily be able to follow you now.
Hi Garry
Thanks for another great video. Have not really been using Twitter much yet but decided to get stuck into it this week, so your vid has come at the right time!
My twitter id is: markaustin

Hi Garry,
Just to inform you I’ve now created the post on my blog about PayPal customisation. It will be useful to all the F500 members who have set up their Profit Pulling Platform.
The link is below
http://www.davepumfrey.com/paypal-payments/how-to-change-the-text-on-the-orange-paypal-button-after-payment/
It should ensure your customers get immediate access to the JV Giveaway traffic generation videos, reduce customer frustration and reduce refund requests.
To our success,
Dave
Hi Garry
Thanks for the information on Twitter..I have really been using Twitter as of late, but I didn’t know how to utilize many of the features you explain in the video.
As usual, you give great ideas!

Hi Garry,
I just watched the video tutorial again. It’s packed with useful info on how to best to use Twitter and add other applications to enhance it’s power. Most of these I didn’t know were available.
However, in the video you mentioned you had created a page with the list of websites you refer to – I can’t find it.
Have you created it yet, or am I just being a bit thick and can’t see the wood for the trees!
Keep up the superb work – you’re an inspiration to many on what can be achieved through focused effort.
To your continued success,
Dave
Dave,
Glad you found the tutorial very useful.
And no you are not thick, LOL – I’ve not got around to putting up the page yet. I’ll get on to it in next 15 mins and the put a comment up saying I’ve completed it.
**** UPDATE ****
I’ve got the various URLs and resources mentioned in the video up now. (Thanks for reminding me Dave
)
Click on the ‘FAQ’ tab above and you’ll find them all.
Plus, if you hover over the ‘RESOURCES’ tab you will see a new link to the Twitter Blogroll that I will compile, right above the already existing WordPress Student Blog roll link. Anyone who leaves their Twitter Id here will be added to the list which makes it very easy for everyone to communicate plus if you use something like TweetDeck (recommended) then you can create a ‘Group’ in it to keep track of all the F500 message separate from any other followers you will have.
Let me know if I missed anything on the FAQ page.

Hi Thomas,
Glad you found it useful.
When I initially started out I thought the video would be less than 10 mins. Honest! But I had that many important things to say about Twitter it went to double that !!
… and there is still more to know about Twitter.
My current Twitter Followers stands at 1,399. Who will be the 1,400th?
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of the F500 who are using it, which is a real shame as one ‘issue’ I see people struggling with is traffic.
Twitter certainly helps on that front.
Excellent Video dude!
Tim Ferriss also recommended a site http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/01/25/kevin-rose-10-ways-to-increase-your-twitter-followers/
which is good too…but not as good as yoru video!
Great for a man who said he didn’t want his face on the internet!

Hi Garry,
Top video ! to be honest with you “Twitter” was completely lost on me, I had no real idea how to use it properly, now I do !
All the best,
Paull
Good morning, Gary,
Thanks for stopping by for a visit and watching my video. Sure appreciate it.
I love Twitter and you’ve certainly mastered the finer points of it. When I see a new video to watch, I immediately look at how many minutes it will run, then I determine if it’s something I need to know now or if it will wait. To be honest, if it’s more than 4 minutes, I most likely have to come back to it unless of course, it’s by someone really remarkable like yourself!
I will be coming back to watch yours, promise.
It’s just something I do, probably due to my ADD-like attention span and the million other things on my list to do.
All the best,
Theresa

Hi Garry:
Once again our White Knight to the rescue. This just goes to show everyone what it means to be just a little ahead of the curve-It means the difference between average or extraordinary returns (in traffic, comments, money…).
Thanks for riding in just when we all needed you.
Also, I’ve shot out my submission to you for the newsletter.
Thanks,
Denis
@Harry – thanks for that link, and there will be a post up about that other matter soon
@Paull – Glad you found the tutorial video useful. Once you get setup drop your Id here and you can start Twittering with everyone!
@Theresa – I thought the video would be initially about 5 – 10 mins. But there is not a lot you can fit in a tutorial video in that time without rushing it. And Moi – remarkable – I try my best and hope find the stuff I do useful. Thanks very much for that though.
@Denis – Thanks for that. I just make sure everyday I complete something (even if only small) that moves me in the direction of my goals. Sent you an email too.

Very helpful vid Garry, thanks!
Am curious, how is Twitter working out for you?
I’m not sure I’m using it right. I’ve posted quips, quotes, questions, answers, urls, and just plain meaningless crap but never seem to get a response.
Are my tweets not going out, I wonder? Or am I just being ignored? Have I angered the Twitter PTB somehow?
How do you make Twitter work for you?
Thanks
Paul Livingston
Garry,
Again great video. I just watched it again to get some ideas on how to dominate. Thanks also for the kind words on Twitter about my video. I look forward to your comments.
I want you to know I have started my first ebook. Will be done by the end of next week. I also have the videos to go with it mapped out and ready to video. I will let you know more the closer I get to completion.
As always thanks again for all your help.
Thom
BTW did you see the video on YouTube or my blog page?
I also liked the email. I need more subscribers so I can do that.
Thanks
Hi Garry,
You’re absolutely right about creating tutorial videos. They do need to be longer than an intro type video. Is the reason for using Viddler vs Youtube that you can upload a video longer than 10 minutes?
Thanks,
Theresa
@Paul,
Glad you liked the video. Firstly, before I forget, what’s your Twitter-Id so I can add it to the Twitter Blogroll and also any of the other F500 can easily follow you if you put it up here. One big short-coming of Twitter is the ability to locate people easily. So, and this goes for EVERYONE,
Make it easy for people to ollow you. Put your Follow-Me button on your website and post your Twitter-Id here too
As for how I make Twitter work. First, I don’t put out lots of URLs, I mix it up and find when I do put up a URL people are more likely to click it. Also, make sure your profile is quite interesting so when they look on that they are tempted to have a look at your blog. In the end, it doesn’t happen in a rush, build the momentum and the returns (traffic) from it slowly build. In the end, do what Alex, says – Dont’t chase and it will then start to come to you. Also the bigger you become (slowly) the easier it gets as well.
@Thom,
Glad you’ve found the video tutorial useful – enough to watch it 2 times. Thanks.
Now if everyone watched my competition video two times and left a comment on it I would be well pleased!! So go on EVERYONE watch it again, …. Please, LOL .
Oh, and I watched your video directly from your blog after I saw your Twitter message I popped to your site. (You see another example of Twitter working). Thanks very much for your comment about my competition video.
I feel honoured that you have said. Thanks, it means a lot to know that my massive effort getting that video made is appreciated. Click here to see me in action!
@Therasa,
Glad you found the time to pop back and watch the video.
Yes, due to the 10 min YouTube rule I had to load it on Viddler as opposed to my original intention of putting it on YouTube.
I have found, Viddler actually gets far more viewing stats and exposure than on YouTube. By a factor of 10 I would say. Amazing I know but it is true.
Hi Garry,
I have found a great free PPC keyword search tool that would be useful for all the students.
I have posted the download link here for anyone but would be a great tool to add to your newsletter.

Hi there Garry,
Terrific video. I haven’t had time to get Twitter happening yet. Thanks for the tips & extra features. My template isn’t very widget friendly, so I’ll have another try.
Please add me to your F500 category – my twitter name: gaielle
Thanks heaps,

Hi Garry,
I’ve downloaded the TweetDeck software.
I’m TOTALLY confused by it all.
Any chance of a video tutorial on how best to use it and its functions?
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Garry,
I don’t seem to have access to all my followers when creating a ‘New Group’ in TweetDeck.
Do you know why that is?
Thanks,
Dave
P.S. The ‘ping’ noise is quite annoying everytime I get an update!
*** UPDATE ****
I put up the Twitter ‘Blogroll’ for those F500 students that have mentioned their Twitter-Id’s on this post. Doesn’t seem to be that many of us using Twitter, but I’ll keep adding to it as time goes by.
You can get to it by clicking the ‘RESOURCES’ page tab at the top of my blog and click the link from there.
Or alternatively click on this link here
Hi Garry,
I’ve just watched an excellent video tutorial on Twitter and TweetDeck, which is part of the superb membership I have to improving my blog and increasing traffic. If anyone’s interested in joining there’s a link on my ‘Resources’ page of my blog. But you better be quick, as they close the doors in afew days. I’m not joking – I just received the email.
Anyway, as part of the tutorial I just discovered how you can add more people to a specific group you create in TweetDeck.
You click on the greyed name below the tweet to get to the profile of the person and then click on the group key at the bottom of the profile. It then asks you which group you want them added to.
So that’s how you can group all the members of the F500 together.
Laters,
Dave
Hi Dave,
Sorry delay in reply but bust day trying to catch-up with things after the weekend.
Tweetdeck is in Beta so there are some bugs in it, the one you identified being one and I found that work around as well though it’s not idea particularly if you want to add someone and they haven’t posted a recent message. You can’t use that method then and I’ve not found an easy way around that yet.
I was thinking of doing a video on Tweetdeck but I have another topic one in mind for later this week. I see you’ve found an alternative source though. Is that membership site free or a pay one? You seem to have a few membership sites on your resources page.
Hey Garry, don’t know how you found me on Twitter but thanks for the follow and add me to you Twitter student blogroll please.
I’m following you as well and appreciate the hard work you do. You emulate Alex very well and have been a busy bee.
Michael J Ottman
Hello Garry
I’ve been using TweetDeck for a while now. Stephen Bray sent a message via ?Twitter, Forunate 500? I don’t know, some time ago recommending it. I’m not sure how to separate people into groups but I’m happy for you to put me in your 500 group.
Best Wishes
Joe
http://twitter.com/josephcgreen
P.S. Excuse me for using your blog to point this out. For newer people to Internet Marketing. You want to get your site listed in Google using keywords. One way is to do what I did here. Instead of my name I put my keywords ‘PLR Unleashed’. This is automatically linked back to your site and Google recognises this as a backlink with your keyword.
Thanks Garry
Best Wishes again
Joe
Hi Garry
Finally got round to watching the video & making some notes.
Working on the kitchen table means that there is always something going on around me so I had to keep pausing the video – so it took me much longer than 20 mins!
Anyway I am reasonably active on Twitter as you know – my id is HilaryDickinson.
I liked the info about TinyURL – I kept seeing those and wondered how they worked. One I did from YouTube worked automatically, but one from my site didn’t – now I know what to do! Thanks.
I have installed Tweetdeck, but haven’t really got used to using it yet, so I’ll need to get going on that some more.
Lots more things to add to my to do list, but this is great – thanks a lot for this help.
Hilary
Hi Garry,
The membership sites on my blog you asked about are all paid for ones.
But I highly recommend the investment as they are excellent value for money – in my opinion.
You get loads of very useful free downloads.
An interactive where you can ask any questions and get answers from the owner and other members. Very cool.
I use that alot myself. That’s how I found out how to change the PayPal orange button text. You can find out more on my blog post, if you want more info.
Access to loads of useful articles and video tutorials, amongst other things.
TweetDeck is SO useful when you get to grips with it. Did you know you can search for tweets with specific keywords in them. Very cool!
I wish I knew how to use CamStudio so I could create a tutorial on all the things it can do for the F500 members.
It’s on my list of things to learn and do.
So many things to do!?
Laters,
Dave
Dave,
A full Camstudio Tutorial video on how to create a video, LOL is here:-
CamStudio Video Tutorial
I think it was the first tutorial video I recorded. It is really easy to use as you will find after you watch the video. Enjoy

Thanks for checking out my YouTube video! Proud to announce that we made it to the #1 position in Google, when the search is for the word “nettcash” ~ Now if we can just translate that into some $$$$ —-?
Question is: How to go about setting up the all important “Blogroll” ~
Any advice from the “Master”?
Thanks in advance ~
