I’m the one that listened to the AJ call setting our task to create a video, had loads of ideas that evaporated as soon as I sat in front of the laptop. As for sitting in front of a Camera, no chance! don’t have a web cam, always avoided it. Good heavens you have to be tidy then aargh!

Basically I guess over the years I have become a boring old fart Gaz l.o.l…….unless you get me talking about Amateur Radio or Volkswagens.

Funny premise for a video. You could have done the lighting better tho. I still think you have a shot at winning the prize.

I am in accord with all that you said. We are sounding like the two eternally-complimentary chipmunks.

I can see the value of the exercise. The good thing with the SEO under my “bonnet” is that it is rather immediate for most of the bots, so if I go for something then I can do it rapidly.

Now, I have already thought of a very sneaky way to do this and get the desired result but I don’t like cheating. It’s not black-hat but it ain’t white-hat stuff either. It’s just sneaky.

Hey! Maybe I’ll disable my whole White-Grey-Black Hat thread, do it, win it, then re-instate it. LOL! Then I would just have to live with having a rotten conscience all for the sake of $1,000 which I wasn’t planning on taking anyway even IF I did win it.

To be honest this whole thing is consuming too much of my thought process and I have just today thought of a great article to write for the PPP for you. I have even taken some notes on it which is a rarity for me.

Yeah, I agree I don’t necessarily understand as well. With you some of the techniques you could possibly use, black-hat or otherwise, I’m not sure what the long-term benefit would be to the site. Alex says that by doing it, you can repeat the exercise again for any search term and I can understand his reasoning there. But, and here’s the big BUT, assuming you get to number 1 spot for ‘Alex Jeffreys’, great you done it and well done. But then say next week/month you want to do it again for another search term, say ‘Garry Parkes’ for example, when I overtake him, LOL. Now the problem I see is that you’ve built up your own blog directed towards one particular search term then swap it to another. This will have the obvious effect of losing your ranking for the original search term I would have thought.

In any case I’ve just started tinkering under the bonnet of my ‘family saloon’ style blog to try and improve things. I’m reading some of the articles and posts around on some of the student blogs to increase rankings. Only thing, some of the changes that you make can take days/weeks to have any effect so getting feedback and responding to it is a lengthy process. How do you know what you are doing is not having the adverse effect?

Gary you say you have great difficulty understanding how we ‘can displace Alex from his own Alex Jeffreys name’. Well first, his name doesn’t even appear in his URL, and secondly sally-ebooks keeps alternating between number 1 and 2 with Alex. In fact looking at it now the warreor forum is actually in number 1 spot, so it obviously can be done. Hey, I’m not even number one for ‘Garry Parkes’ – some Real Estate guy in America is !!!!!

I suspected that and I follow your line of reasoning to a T, so no bubble bursting at my end.

But on the other side of the coin, and this is where I have great difficulty, I just can’t see how we could displace Alex from his own Alex Jeffreys’ name.

I mean, yeah, you could always do some black hat stuff, get to the top of google, take the snapshot, then go back and remove the keyword stuffing before you get the infamous Gooey-slap, but what would that prove?

Just a quick reply as I’m v. busy at moment. (Actually I’m about to telephone Oz). Right, re. Alex Jeffreys’ competition. He was very clear that it was just his name – and his name ONLY. If you think about it, it has to be that way – just put the 3 words ‘alex jeffreys garry’ in google and who is at the top – me of course!!

No surprise there because the extra word makes all the difference and people could no doubt do something similar to get their own site at the top. So sorry to burst your bubble a bit Gary but, must try harder, LOL.

I’m back and I finished my video. I put it on my blog and launched on youtube. So it’s official. I’m in the contest. You’re a tough act to follow, but I’ve given it my best.

I have been randomly jumping the blogs and I’m not seeing a lot of video. Am I missing something? Is there a secret meeting place to go to with your completed video?

And now, I need to focus more on traffic. Have you found something that is working really well for you?

I need your advice mate, actually the more the merrier. I need an interpretation on that $1,000 Google challenge thing that Alex threw out to us.

You see, my coder has just informed me that all my keywords are absolutely flying up in Google popularity, including all references to his name.

I’m gonna chuck a screen shot up where I am in both #1 and #2 for his name, albeit with a tail of one word, which is the least dilution of his name possible.

I’m not getting carried away here coz I think I may have misinterpreted his challenge. I was a bit confused at the time (not to mention tired). Like how could anyone displace his name from his own blog? Given the fact that it is such an old blog with literally 1000′s of entries of his name.

Anyway, the main thing for me is that all the internals of my blog are now being chewed over by all the search engines and I am starting either to feature strongly or to dominate at almost every mention of his name – and just about anything else I care to write about, it seems.

Sorry folks. But there is $1,000 on offer here and IF I win it I am making this pledge right now – it goes DIRECTLY to the superstar doing all this for me.

Also, JFYI my google analytics has taken on a decidedly Mount Everest look from the day that the SEO was done. It is an incredible transformation – all thanks to my brilliant accomplice.

Mate my brain is just about fried after the frenetic pace I self-imposed over the last 48 hours. Now PLEASE I don’t want ANYBODY to be as foolish as I have been. I think I have slept something like 5 hours in the last 48 just pushing myself to hammer my new site home.

I agree with you Garry that a bit of friendly rivalry is always good, as is a bit of crazy banter. For instance, your mentioning of my (formerly) sh*tty blog on your spoof video prompted a reaction in me. I saw the window of opportunity I had (thanks to your very humourous sarcastic wit) so I contacted my accomplice and we just went for it. That is called TIMING!

But here is the lesson – just LOOK at what all that synergy caused! I now have a blog that rivals anyone, and I mean ANYONE, on the Internet. And that includes all the big-boys and girls. I don’t care what their names are! I just wanted to PROVE that it is possible to rise like a rocket and then explode across the horizon so everyone can look up and say, “Wow! Look at that!”

Now here is the BEST part. I can help others do the same. All of that information now sits on my blog. All YOU have to do, if you want, is go and read it. I documented as much of what I did as I could without truly stuffing it down your cake-hole (‘scuse the term but the Gazz-man does not mess around when he truly means business).

Good Luck with the video but if you’ve not done anything like it before be prepared for a few obstacles. Worth sticking at it in the end though.

As for Gary’s mysterious ‘Q’ – just put an ‘Expression of Interest’ or whatever Gary calls it, up on his site and see where it leads. Never know if you don’t ask. I unfortunately won’t be able to take advantage but later down the line when I’ve made a stack of money I will, LOL.

Way to go give it to Gary . I do have to say your are a machine, but then again so is Gary.

I have finally figured out how I am going to do my video for the competition. I am sketching it out now. Creating the story board – minus the pictures, I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler . It should be pretty interesting. I will let you know when it is up. My plan is to start filming tonight.
