Getting Great Content for Your Blog
Early on the in Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course, Alex told us of the importance of having good fresh content on your Blogs. If you give value to your visitors they will come back for more. Simple as that. I have made sure I regularly put out new content on my Blog and made sure every week I put up several new posts. But how/where do I get the ideas from to write my content?
Well, I apply another technique that Alex Jeffreys taught is – I keep a journal, plus I record ideas and make notes all the time. I have a spreadsheet continually open as I am ‘working’ at my computer and I just drop notes and reminders into it whenever something pops into my head so I don’t forget !! Since the Alex Jeffreys Coaching course started I have had no problem in keeping my material fresh, but where else can you go if you have writers block?
Well her are a few ideas that I can instantly think of (I’m sure there are more!):-
Private Label Rights (PLR); you can use this material for free, rewrite it if you want to make it your own and put your own personality onto the content.
Article Directories; Excellent resource, just using one site, such as Ezine Articles and you will be overwhelmed with the amount of material written.
Outsourcing; Try Rentacoder here. You could no doubt get a series of 50 articles on Internet Marketing for well less than $100. Post a project and see what happens. (It’s free to post a request so do it NOW!)
Journaling; Keep a record of what you are doing. This is your story, and stories sell.
Other blogs; Get inspiration from what other people write about.
Free ebooks; again great for inspiration for you creating your own material.
Twitter; I love Twitter. Everyday there is at least one useful link that is posted. Follow me if you don’t already and I’ll keep you posted too.
YouTube; Do a search on any topic and you are sure to turn up great tutorial videos on any topic and better still you can embed the videos in your posts too.
Over the course of the last week I have been approached by two Blog owners (via Twitter) to write material for their own sites as a Guest. I’m certainly going to do this, as who knows where it could lead. It gives me potentially greater exposure plus the Blog Owner gets free content. Win-win all around. So, that’s another avenue you could explore if you wanted to.
Alex Jeffreys mentioned most of these in his great Coaching Course. For those Alex Jeffreys students reading, have a look over your course notes and/or review the Webinars as there are loads of nuggets of information for you to try and apply. Give it a go.
To finish this post, here is a video from my friend and fellow Alex Jeffreys student Gary Simpson. For those that haven’t seen it on his site already here it is-
In fact, Gary is going to do a 52-part series of these motivational videos and I have created a special ‘Motivation’ page in the Tabs at the top of my Blog to group all these together. You see sharing content like this is win-win for both of us. Gary gets greater exposure plus I get a great video series too

Hi Garry,
Another place to get ideas for posts on your blog is from the emails we all receive.
If you are on many lists yourself, there is fresh content coming into your inbox everyday. Sure, some of these are just ‘pitching’ the next great product, but there are many marketers out there providing free valuable info.
All the best
Mark
Hey Garry;
I love the journaling tip. Another IM bod told me to do this a long time back but I didn’t realise how important it was – thankfully the penny’s dropped since I joined AJ’s coaching.
Two other sites I like to look at for ideas are http://answers.yahoo.com and http://www.43things.com – all real world stuff (well, mostly).
Cheers,
Austin.
Hi Garry,
Heh…heh… I am certainly getting “exposure” but probably for all the WRONG reasons. The bit at the end of the video and the books on the bokkshelf seem to be over-shadowing the message. Oh well… at least it’s out there!
Thanks heaps for the link and the “Gazz-Man” page. I feel very privileged at that. Awesome Garry!
I’m just wondering how frequently I should do these videos. I have all the scripts written out. I’m thinking about once a fortnight. At that rate it will take me two years to finish the series.
What do you think?
Gary Simpson
Hi Garry
Just dropped by to let you know that I have added a new post about what we should teach our young people, partly based on what we are learning on our journey here.
This was mainly inspired by the comments over on the Gazz-Man’s blog and includes a quote from what you wrote there. I hope that you do not mind.
Please do go over and leave me your thoughts and comments. Send me an email if you think there is more you would like to say about it.
I shall be away for a couple of days but will answer you on my return.
I think that this is too important a subject to leave.
I hope everyone can add their thoughts and comments, whether or not you have young people in your household. I would really appreciate your help with this.
Thanks for your help.
Hilary
Hi Garry, another fantastic post! I have been trying to get content for my blog and you’ve reminded me of what Alex said.
I remember him in one of his videos saying that there is no new information, just information repackaged with you included.
Everything he has taught us is existing information but since he has included his story into it we all feel like we have been on this jouney with him.
The same goes for us students. As we go through this journey together we can journal our experiences and challenges. There is always something to write.
If anything we should be surfing each others blogs and see where we can help and offer services. As we help each other, success follows.
As I’ve helped some of the students with graphics for their sites, I want to thank Steven DeGracia for the Camtasia help and I want to thank you Garry for the Profit Pulling Project.
It gives those who have no content to offer their subscribers something every two weeks to give and it is chalked full of value and more importantly, experience.
I love to read about personal stories, not just the information. It’s like being pulled into a good book as you relate and feel connected.
So for anyone thinking they have no content or don’t know what to write about, stop worrying because every single thing you are good at and are not good at is something people want to know.
If you know, then offer advice. If you don’t, then ask questions. It does not get any easier then that.
Good job Garry.

Hi, Garry
Thanks for a very useful post; and congratulations on becoming a guest-star!
You mentioned Article Directories –
Can you tell s anything about “duplicate content” implications, if any, regarding the same articles being used on multiple sites by different blog owners?
Best regards,
James

@4 Hils
I’ve left a HUGE long post over at yours on that very subject – I’ll warn you now, it’s a long one, you’ll probably want to sit down while reading it!

Garry,
Once again a great post. I find my best time for coming up with new ideas is at around 2:00 in the morning. I wake up and can not get back to sleep until I get the thoughts out on paper. It can really drive me crazy if I don’t, I lie in bed and just think and think. My brain just continues to churn on an idea.
I have been working like a mad man on my latest project and ebook. I have also been in San Antonio Texas for the last two weeks for my work. My Ebook will be complete by the end of the week. I would like it if you would take a read and tell me what you think.
Thanks again
Thom
Great post Garry,
I agree, there are ideas everywhere. As you are involved in something it becomes easier to notice idea opportunities.
I make notes all the time from what I see and read. If I want to write about someting taht I don’t know enough about or already have my own resources, I just do a search for the topic and can usually come up with info to use easily.
Just a reminder, I have a custom search set up on my blog, so anyone wanting to search the Alex group for a specific topic – it’s there. And I’ll add your blog sites as you visit and leave comments – hey everything has a cost!
John
Hi Garry,
Really good post. I agree that if you keep a journal, then you can make notes aas you go along and then use these to make new posts. Thank you for following me on twitter. I would like to request you to add me to your blog roll aas I think I am one of alex few remaining students who are not yet on it.
Regards,
Rod
