Hope everyone is well and putting into action the steps to build a solid foundation to an online business. I thought this morning I’d put up a general catch up post as we have had so many comments, that it’s easy to loose valuable responses along the way. Just a reminder don’t forget to vote in the poll, the video option just has the most votes at the moment, so if you want your preference to win get your vote in now.

BIG NEWS FIRST! Have you seen that the man himself, Alex Jeffreys, has posted a very long and complimentary post on the blog to us all? In fact, he is that impressed with how we have all pulled together on the site and helped one another that he is going to make a case study of us all. Wow, how cool is that??? I think that can only be beneficial to all who have commented, contributed and those that appear in the Blogroll as even more people will visit here and then pop on over to your sites as well. It’s win-win all around, so I urge anyone who has been holding back until now – get involved – everybody gains in the long run and at the same time we can help and support one another.

So here follows some key topics that have been covered over just the last 2 days and help for those who want to know how to do something.

Blog Traffic

How am I getting so much traffic and promoting the blog? What methods am I using to get the traffic (over 150 visitors yesterday!)? A few people have asked things along those lines.

Sorry, but I’m no expert – it’s my first ever blog – so I don’t really know how I’ve achieved it but this is a breakdown on what I’ve done which has all helped to contribute:-

  • Written on average about 2 posts a day,
  • Created a student Blogroll. I’ve done this as a useful resource for everyone plus this helps these other student’s sites. I didn’t ask if they would return the favour; just knew it would be beneficial to them. Already, I’ve noticed quite a few have returned the favour and added me to their Blogroll which is mutually beneficial to both of us in getting traffic. If you haven’t a blogroll I think it is something you should consider doing.
  • Added a video to YouTube. Certainly got traffic from that and still am.
  • Registered my blog with Feedburner and added the RSS subscriber feed to my blog. Now to be honest I don’t understand this at all. Don’t even know if I’ve set it all up properly!! For example, can some tell me if that little orange icon on the left sidebar of my blog is configured correctly!!??? I really do not have any idea so appreciate what other more experienced readers have to say about RSS/Feedburner.
  • Contributed to other peoples’ blogs.
  • Positioned myself as an independent point of contact from Alex and Dean’s blog. I can tell particularly from the emails I have been getting, that some people are more suspicious, or possibly a better description would be they want to see clearer evidence, that the approach Alex teaches in his coaching course does actually work. Think they feel comfortable that I am telling my story. We must have nearly 100 comments in about 1 week now, so I guess it’s working.
  • Made the Permalinks on my blog more SEO friendly. Again not 100% sure what all this is about but I’ve read that it is the thing to do rather than use the default WordPress setting that just numbers all your post rather than using the title of the post to link to them.

So that’s it in essence. Not sure which particular bit has got me the most traffic because I don’t know how to measure such things yet, or how to improve them even if I could!! In the end I just took action, not worried too much about things and it seems to have taken on a life of its own.

It is easy to forget that we are all at differing levels of expertise. Those who need more information on the basics may find these blog entries useful.

And finally, a video on installing WordPress in just 2 minutes

Branding – How should you do it?

Touched on in various comments. Click on this comment from Coleen here which is a useful starting point and around where other people’s views on it can be found.

Again commented on quite a bit.

Have a look first here and around here is some more feedback

Patience; Perceived lack of Progress

The post that generated the most feedback and the most revealing about the way some people address things is found here.

And the excellent response from Dean here

but the whole comment thread is useful to read.

So that’s a summary of the highlights just from the last 2 days alone. Amazing, how things are moving along. Key to it all; take action, ask questions if you are stuck, don’t get bogged down with perfection (you can see from a few things I’ve done I’m not 100% sure about them) as something is better than nothing. Don’t get frustrated as committing to things over a longer period will work out better then just short-term focus. Even though all the materials are not yet loaded up on the members site there is loads to be doing. At the moment I’m going through all the Post Launch Secret videos again and carrying out actions based on those.

Keep at it. Remember to vote and see you next time.
