Quick Update and Request for All Students
Morning fellow entrepreneurs!
Quick update. I’ve been inundated with emails direct to me asking for help or advice. Now I really do appreciate people contacting me, but for help/advice the blog is the place to interact. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again; if it is a question worth asking then it’s something that somebody else will be struggling with as well and thus relevant to be posted on the blog. I will no longer be replying personally to these types of emails as to be honest I just haven’t got the time. Hope you all understand
However, that is not to say that there are times when something is better sent by email as the topic is of a more personal nature or not relevant for a general audience. These of course I will always reply to. In the end we are trying to build a useful reference site and community here for everyone, so personal email tuition doesn’t give anything back to the wider community.
A major theme for a lot of these emails are along the lines of how do I get a blog off the ground? I’m on a shoestring so don’t want to spend any money. I understand where you are coming from (read my profile under ‘About Me’ and you’ll totally understand I sympaphise with you as I’m in the same boat!). However, let me make this very clear to all newbies out there - at the very minimum to have to pay to register a domain name and then also monthly hosting charges. I have answered the exact details of this before on this comment#12. After that you can do a lot of things (everything?) yourself and for free if you want to. Remember, in yesterday’s post I have offered to install your blog for free and plus a very cheap hosting option. Click on the Hosting tab at the top of page as you now have no excuses. Also, there are loads of other relevant posts and comments on this blog addressing these initial setup tasks, plus link backs to the contributions other students have made on their own blogs. It is all there either directly on this blog and/or a link to other students blogs so please read and then action.
In closing, it is now nearly two weeks since we signed up with the Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course. If you haven’t got your blog set up by now - why not? Some may have genuine excuses but to be blunt in the majority of cases if you haven’t by now, then no more excuses you need to take action. The only person that can make a success of this is looking straight back at you in the mirror. Alex has done a tremendous job in the material he has already presented to us. But he can’t do one thing for you personally. TAKE ACTION - DO IT NOW.
Finally, later today I’ll be putting up a real KILLER POST!! Something that will be fantastic to everyone and of course for FREE. I’m really excited about my latest offering and this will be the biggest, best and most ambitious thing I have done to day. See you later.
PS. Oh, forgot to mention. I’ve removed some entries from the Student Blogroll as they were not linking back to blogs, some were going to their own PPPs they have just setup. The purpose of the blogroll is to link to informational resources/blogs which are useful for everyone to read and learn from. Let me know if you want to be added to the list

G-man!
Extremely well said! I have experienced exactly the same overload.
To that end, and for the benefit of all the new people, I have put up a 5 part series of mini tutorials at my blog.
They cover ALL the most FAQ that new people ask over and over again - domain names, blogging, how to build a blogroll, writing techniques, blogsite design… all that sort of stuff that people get bogged down with.
My “HINTS & TIPS” pages can be accessed on the RHS of my main page about half way down. They are EASY to spot. I have made them as EASY to follow as possible.
However, I would suggest people read my “HINTS & TIPS” thread first to see the usefulness of what I have covered. Read other people’s experiences with the info I have put there.
To be honest Parkesy (hope you don’t mind me calling you that) I was just wasting so much time answering the same stuff over and over again that the 5 hours this project took me will be WELL worth it.
Go and have a look folks and if you find my info helpful make a brief comment for others to see on the “HINTS & TIPS” comment thread page… social Web 2.0 networking in action.
Sayonara for now.

Hi Garry,
Seems that you are really the superstar among us.
Great. We just need a ‘class monitor’ to take care the rest of us here.
Hey, just one question. Seems that I still cant set up my Akismet completely. It says
“Akismet is almost ready. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.”
I followed their instruction on how to get the API key but still dont get it. How on earth to get the key?
Does anyone know? Anyone who can help me out, please reply at any of my posting at http://www.hyzatnoor.com. Thanks a LOT guys
regards,
Hyzat noor
Hi Garry,
Another great post and great to all your hosting problems behind you.
Fantastic hosting offer you have put together and will be of real benefit to those are having problems.
I can’t imagine what your inbox must look like, so hopefully your post will lead to more q’s here.
Hyzat - You need to set up an a/c with wordpress (not your blog a/c) and then they give you the Api key. Go to wordpress.com, get an a/c and then request the api. They will email it to you, then go back to your plugin and enter the number.
All the best
Mark

Hey Garry, I’ve apologised to you on my blog. I swiped your list, but it was for a valid cause. Cheers mate!!

Thanks for the replies guys,
>Gary - Parkesy!!, Parkes!! I’ve been called worse, buts that’s ok Simo, lol. Thanks for the support. I knew there would be others facing exactly the same dilemma - personal requests for support rather than through the blogs. Good idea for a FAQ page. I’m going to put up a separate page myself pulling all the best info together in one place.
>Hyzat - What is Akismet???? Looks like Mark has responded though and pointed you in the right direction. But what does it do?
>Dave - No worries. Whole purpose of the site is to help one another
Garry I see you have everything running smoothly again. That must have been quite a job moving your blog to a new host. I was a little concerned that you would be overwhelmed with email from all of this. You have hopefully resolved that issue nicely.
I have a small request. I cannot figure out if my blog is working right, no one has left any comments. I just posted on the subject of How To Make Your Business Plan which I figured some people could use help with. Could someone go over and try to leave a comment so I know if it works.
Thank you

Hi Thomas,
Nobody is really going to leave a comment as you are forcing them to register!!
You have to make it easy for people oherwise they will just move onto another site.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Gary I will figure out how to change the settings
Thomas
Garry, Akismet is a plugin that should come with your wordpress install, it protects your blog from spam comments, if you don’t have the plugin installed I suggest you download it and sign up to wordpress.com to get your api key asap.

Easiest method to get a professional level blog up (wordpress on your own server) if you have a little money to spend is http://www.semiologic.com Costs 297 usd but worth every penny. Supreme quality, all the right plugins just at your fingertips. it’s what I use for my own profit pulling blogs
making good money every month.
Let’s face it, if you were doing an offline business you’d have to come up with 50k to 1MM to get really started.
Don’t go short on this, set it up as a real business.

Hi to all,
I attempted to send Alex my blog URL as requested on Tuesday/Wednesday
But it got bounced so forwarded it to support.
They didn’t know anything about this.
So my question is: has anyone else had the same problem? If not, could you let me know how you submitted your Blog URL?
Regards
Mick
Hi to all,
I fully appreciate where you are coming from in regard to students sending emails.
The only alternative at the moment is to leave a comment attached to a posting which may be totally unrelated. The chances of this being picked up if placed on a long thread is pretty remote.
I feel the time has arrived where a student forum would be better served for us all. That way we can generate new postings where they can be easily seen by all.
My knowledge of Blogging is not so good, but a possible alternative to a Forum would be to have Users with logins who could make posts. These could be vetted prior to publishing via the Admin Dashboard.
I open this up to all……
Before I go, I do have a question…

Hi Mick
Yes I agree, a forum would be the best ideo as things are getting lost in this huge blog.
Wordpress has a forum plugin so I suppose any one of us could host it or we could agree to a neutral territory. Hope we get some votes for this.
Very usefull post.
Thanks.
P.S. I like your writing style.
First of all congratulation for such a great site. I learned a lot reading article here today. I will make sure i visit this site once a day so i can learn more.

I agree that all questions should be posted on your blog Garry. That reminds me.. Is there a way that people get auto emailed when a blog post is responded to?
It would save a lot of time as we go to each others blogs and leave comments. If anyone knows of such a tool or widget feel free to let me know.
I’m sure others would appreciate such a tool or widget. I am offering free graphic design of your current or future projects as part of my learning curve.
I have done new ecovers for Chelsea Filan, Alan Neath, and gave some advice for Bill Vannot all for free too. So if you know of anyone needing a kickstart please send them my way.
You have contributed so much Garry, I just want to do the same and since your newsletter is so awesome, if I can add any graphics advice or article to your newsletter I’d be glad to contribute.
You have my permission here and now to use any posts or articles from my blog for content for the Profit Pulling Project.
Again, you da man…
Michael J Ottman
Hi Michael,
There is a way but I don’t know how to do it yet. It is something very close to the top of my to-do list so I will let you know when I work it out as I think it would be very useful in deed.
In fact, Anybody out there reading know a good widget that does this? I see it done on a few of the sites how people can leave a comment and then asked to be emailed once somebody comments any more on that post.
Thanks for the offers as well - You on my to-do list to email. I will get around to it a bit later today
Garry,
Can you please help me with the following problem… I have done things the wrong way around. I have created my profit pulling platform (Squeeze page, etc) on my website and now I want my blog as the main page. Should I remove all the content of my PPP so that my blog can be the main page - I really do not want to loose all that info. I am so lost now… Not even to talk about my blog…
Lelanie
Hi Lelanie,
Sorry but you will have to delete it all and start again.
When setting up your PPP you have set the Paypal and Aweber code directing it to a certain page and this is now going to move after you install your blog there.
Useful information , great post . Thanks for sharing
