My site had explorer problems again for about an hour and then fine again. I have not changed anything and it seems to go back and forth.

This is the second time anyways this happened. Since this has been happening all of a sudden with other students, why would it be a Wordpress problem since I have not made any changes to my plugins or functions?

I will always suspect it an Explorer problem. I'm no techie but it's strange none the less. Also I took the time to go through the css of my theme and made my site unique to me.

I love to learn and even though I could have paid someone to change my theme, I enjoy learning about html and css. Not to include my own graphics creation.

I even made my own checkboxes next to the categories. So my offer still stands for anyone needing help with graphics or anything else so please just let me know.

Hi Garry,

I've found out what the problem was - it was my Wordpress theme.

Don't know what caused it, in fact it may have been there all along.

You see, I've just been using the Firefox browser for a while now...and NEVER thought to think about other browsers and what the blog would be displayed like.

Although come to think of it I've viewed the blog at work AND that uses an Internet Explorer browser and there were no problems until just recently. But, it pays to think about these things in hindsite.

I still can't find a Wordpress theme at the moment that will display the blog the same in FF and IE.

It may just require a WP update to 2.7 - but my hosting company has a different arragnement to using Fantastico in the CPanel like in Dean's recent post on how to update your blog to WP 2.7.

So I'm stuffed for a bit until my hosting company explains how to do it.

Did you create your own WP theme using Artisteer or just have someone else do it for you?

So just be aware and occasionally check your blog's appearance in a different browser.

Hi Dave,

I see what you mean.

Works in Firefox but not in IE7.

Try the Twitter feed in your right side bar. I know it seems to work on the other pages okay, but if you followed the solution to my problem last week it was totally baffling.

It would work on a page if you loaded it direct but if you clicked to navigate to it, it didn't !! Totally the opposite of what you would expect so remove it and see if that sorts it.

Hi Garry,

I've just had my automatic updates from Microsoft and now I can't view the Homepage on my blog correctly in Internet Explorer 7.

I've deactivated most of the plugins and it still the same, but everything looks fine on all the other 'Pages'.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Does anyone know the solution or have a suggestion?

Bl**dy automatic upgrades and Microsoft.

It's bl**dy annoying.

Any help or assistance would be great.

Thanks,

Dave (hacked off!)

Garry,

Certainly not what anyone wants to do, have to stop in the middle of everything and deal with such an interuption.

What I am always taken by is how we can often spend so much time on something and miss the one key factor until later, then it seems almost obvious. Ah, the human mind!

You may be right in thinking there was some link to an upgrade, as I've experienced strange things only to discover that IE or something had updated.

Well, good to see you back up and running again.

And hey, it could have been worse!

@Michael,

Good question about the videos. We all know it ended on the 5th Feb but not sure how Alex Jeffreys will announce the winner for the most number of viewings.

The one for the most creative one that gets across the subject matter of what we do with Alex Jeffreys best, I know is being judged by Alex and Maria Andros.

I guess we will all find out very soon

@Stephen,

Agree entirely, we all need to help and encourage each other as mush as possible. It's a kind of leverage that helps us all.

And you spotted that comment form my wife then, LOL ? Has great weekend thanks though weather a bit on the cold side not like where you are :-)

@Sandra,

Your post puts everything in perspective. There are far, far more important things in life. I sincerely hope that your precious baby Felipe will soon be fine. I wish you and your family the best.

The problem when this kind of thing happens to me is that I automatically assume that I've done something at my end to make software malfunction.

But often, as in this case, the problem was an incompatibility generated by Microsoft.

There's a moral here, which is that we need to be more confident in ourselves, and our abilities.

On a practical note the message seems to be that if ANYTHING malfunctions like this, the first step is to use a different browser, go on-line and search to see if others are experiencing the same problem.

I was over at Dean's site recently and noted that his new site layout loaded fine in IE 7, but the tabs were cracking up in Firefox.

When any of us notices such problems we really should advise each other of them. Jeffrey in Ipoh,Malaysia spent around three weeks with a broken theme because I was the sole person who had bothered to tell him of a Firefox problem he was experiencing. He only had seen his site in I.E.7.

I am going to RANT a little here, but I really think that Alex really needs to RAM HOME that this Program isn't about competing with each other, or sell each other stuff, but rather about helping each other to learn and grow.

Hoping you're having a good weekend, and your wife and kids can still remember who you are?

Warmly,

Stephen
P.S. I only really came her to thank you for commenting on my post about what I should be doing with my blog!

After the hiccup of IE7 I decided to just get off of my computer for awhile. It did not take long here in the US anyway for it to be fixed.

I'm just glad I did not remove any of my blog tools and I'm sorry Garry that you worked on it for as long as you did before finding out it was a global problem.

All is fine now with my IE7 and I hope everything is working well for all of you now. I do have Firefox just in case and only have used it a few times to see how my other websites look in different browsers.

PS Does anyone know who won the competition yet for their videos? If the competition ended on the 5th, how do we know who won the most views?

Also I have seen some great entertaining and informative ones too. Best of luck to all.

@Paull,

No need to apologise about the Tweet. I was so snowed under with my IE7 problem there were loads of things I didn't managed to do as well.

@Mark,

Again no worries mate. I know your were doing some investigation on the problem as well and really appreciated your input. We got there in the end. The next time something similar happens I will start removing things and work from there regardless of what the analysis points to. That is the big lesson I learnt – Microsoft is so unpredictable.

@Thom,

The Gazelle was great, LOL. It took a great deal of effort to track down but it certainly wasn’t going to get away ? Thanks.

@Gaielle,

I actually do have Firefox (and Google Chrome now which is great). I am using IE7 less and less nowadays, but the problem needed sorted not from my point of view but for the many across the world that come to my site using IE7. You see form their point of view, if they continually can't access my site (and any other site for that matter) then most will not go to the trouble of changing browsers – they will just get so frustrated and not come back. Therefore, it is essential to thinking of it from that point of view. IE7 is still one of the most popular browsers in the world (in fact, I thought it still was until you said otherwise) so I have to ensure I never exclude those people trying to access my site.

And your quote

<blockquote>
Get some rest Garry. You work too hard!
</blockquote>

I think my wife would agree with you there, LOL. But I will start easing off a little when the Alex Jeffreys coaching is finished, then I will finalise my plans for the direction I want to go in.

On a personal note Gaielle, you are doing fantastic yourself. For example, of all the student videos yours was very good and more importantly exceptionally well positioned marketing wise. I knew it would do well as can be seen by the fact that you are whooping me in the Youtube traffic side of the competition, LOL. Well done, but it is richly deserved. I certainly picked up a few marketing ideas from your video and the way you piggybacked using the name Britney !! You have come a long way from when you took up the <a href="http://garryparkes.com/hosting/" rel="nofollow">free blog installation offer</a> with me

- from a struggling novice to what you have achieved with your blog now. Just shows anyone can can come if people really focus and put their mind to something. Well done, and for those out there that haven't seen Gaielle's video here it is again:-

- from a struggling novice to what you have achieved with your blog now. Just shows anyone can can come if people really focus and put their mind to something. Well done, and for those out there that haven’t seen Gaielle’s video here it is again:-

Garry,

For what it is worth, I found that when I went to a site and got the pop up box you referred to that said the site could not be opened, if I moved off the box and clicked on the site the box would close and I was able to view the site normally. This worked each time I ran into the pop up.

Hi Garry, Sorry to hear a time waster IE7 turned out to be. Are you opposed to Firefox? It's the most used browser in the world now. I believe Microsoft has attempted to copy some of its features. I also saw a YouTube video yesterday about how they've copied MacOS X with Vista. Microsoft seems to be losing its edge and is now a follower rather than a leader. Why not give Firefox a try? Having both on your computer, if one acts up, you can switch to the other. That way you know if it's your site or the browser that's giving you problems.
Get some rest Garry. You work too hard! Cheers, Gaielle

Garry,

Thanks for the update. This is one of the reasons I hate automatic updates. You never know and I believe Microsoft doesn't either what might happen when then send these things out.

Gary you have the nose of a bloodhound and the tenacity of Lion on the hunt for a Gazelle.

Good work on tracking that Gazelle down to its source. I bet lunch was good :)

Have a great day

Hi Garry,

Well done on sorting it out mate, I was close with the add ons then, just not in IE but Wordpress.

Sorry I didn't get back to you last night but I had a quick look at your site and saw the problem was resolved anyway.

All the best

I have same problem with IE7 when visiting Google Latitude site. Put in www.google.com/latitude. Then it goes to a page called intro.html. Remove the /intro.html from the address bar and press Enter. You will get this error.

Hi Garry,

Tenacious as ever =O) I´m glad you managed to get to the bottom of the problem, it was a royal pain!

Really sorry I didn´t reply to your tweet yesterday but, I had more than my fair share of problems yesterday.

Somehow I managed to pick up a "mail bomber" that caused me all sorts of problems, so yesterday was pretty much a dead loss on the productivity front =O(

All the best,
