Win the Traffic Competition
How are you going about trying to win the $1,000 prize money in the Traffic Generation competition? Well looking around the sites I see some interesting ideas sprouting up. One of the best ones that caught my eye was another competition that is run by a fellow student to give away a further $200 in prize money. Now the competition is brought you by Joe Trueman and can be found here. It’s a good creative idea and deserves your support and hey you can win another $200 !!
But how can you yourself generate traffic? Well, if your scratching your head searching for some magic button that you press and hey presto it comes in floods well it’s not going to happen. Those who signed up with our mentor Alex Jeffreys did so for a reason, to find out what he does and copy it. The fast-track to success is to follow a proven model and apply it and that is exactly what you should be doing now. So how I’m I applying the knowledge that Alex has imparted to us?
Well, one thing I am doing is becoming a bit of a sleuth, a spy, a Sherlock Holmes if you like. You see if someone is having some success and you want a piece of it, do what they do – model them. But how do you find out what they are doing? Well you look for the ‘trails’ they leave across the Internet. One way to pick up and these ‘trails’ they leave, is to use Google Alerts. You can set it up within your Google account. With Google Alerts you can enter search terms and you will then be emailed a digest of what activity is found from a variety of sources on the Internet. For example, say there is a particular guru or even another Alex Jeffreys student that seems to be getting good results and you want to mimic what they do. (Of course, if it is another student you shouldn’t have to do this, as part of the rules of the Alex’s competition is that they write and reveal about what they are doing on their blog. But if they haven’t got around to posting yet, you maybe able to get a ‘heads-up’ on what they are up to). I use Google Alerts to ‘spy’ on what others are up to and try and keep track of any new sites that may be of interest. One site I found that is worth checking out via the method is called Warreor Forum – The number 1 Internet Marketing Forum. I’ve noticed one or two other students in there so it is something I am going to check out as well. It’s also packed with useful information too.
Now I haven’t done anything on the WF yet. Why not? Well, it’s on my list, but it’s all about how much time I have to do things and prioritisation. You see before doing any of these other things that may be beneficial, you have to do the things you know have an impact first. To this end, how many of you have got your RSS feeds set up properly on your blogs and submitted them to the scores of RSS directories out there to get maximum exposure? If not, why not? This is an extremely powerful and proven technique which will start to show virtually immediate results. It has done for me. So if you are still pondering about which direction to go in then why haven’t you done this? It’s all covered by JT Martin in the free current edition of “The Profit Pulling Newsletter”. It is easy to do and it is as close to the ‘magic button’ that you are going to get.
Hey, but come closer, let me tell you the secret – you’ve still got to press the button! You, yes YOU, have got to TAKE ACTION. Traffic will not just magically appear by just thinking about it and wondering what others are doing you have to do something.
So what else am I up to? Well, with the limited time I have over this Christmas period I am still commenting on as many blogs as I can and also answering as many questions as I can on my own. That way I add value to people and they come back to see the latest. Of course each release of the Newsletter will gradually build up more and more traffic, but that is more of building a solid base and will not have a great impact on the 2 week competition. Plus I will be going through all the videos we have in the PPP product we are selling. You see it is obvious from some of the questions posted around the blogs that many have not even viewed these crucial videos. Amazing !! Again if not, why not? You need to take a critical view of your own actions as the ‘secrets’ have been laid out before us all, just some have not bothered to look close enough. There is no need to come up with some super-duper new technique, nor ‘reinvent the wheel’, you just have to copy the model of those already having success.
You see this message is so simple, that many will overlook it, not believe, be convinced there is some ‘hidden’ unspoken secret elsewhere and thus pass it by wasting more valuable time in the ‘searching phase’ rather than ‘doing’. I urge you to grasp what you already know and put a plan of action together immediately. To give you a kick-start in this direction, you could do worse then grab a copy of Gary Simpson’s Project X. It will be an invaluable tool to guide you through this process.
In the end there are no real mysteries to traffic generation. It is just a culmination of a number of efforts that build up into an eventual tsunami of visitors. But those visitors will only come back if you have something useful to contribute on your site.
Now I have another revelation to make to you all. As you know my blog has become one of the most visited in the Alex Jeffreys community. Certainly the most active if the number of comments is anything to go by (We have just blown through well over 1,000 comments in the last 3 weeks alone!!!). So what is my surprising revelation that I told you all yesterday I would be sharing with you and how you can directly take advantage? Well, sssshh, keep it quite …. But I am NOT actively participating in the competition after today? I could certainly do with an extra 1,000 dollars – but Christmas is family time. That is more important at this time of year. You see I just do not have the time to focus on this over the holiday season (look, this post is 24-hours later than I hoped it would be !). Christmas is a magical time, which kids love (and I’m a big kid at heart!) so I will let others who have time over this period to drive traffic to their own sites and strive towards winning that prize. In the end we all gain, as those who manage to pull in extra traffic will cause a ripple effect amongst the other student sites. Over this period, I will not be quite as active as over the past several weeks. Of course I will keep things ticking over, answer questions on my site and put up regular posts but nothing much more than that.
So good luck to all those that are active during this period. Any successes you make will be all our successes.
I will be putting up the final very important post tomorrow before Christmas day itself. This will be crucial to those that are really determined to maintain a prominent and active position in our student community and thus will have a direct and powerful impact on your traffic generation strategy. If you want to take advantage of this I will be offering valuable prizes to those who want to be really at the forefront of our thriving community. Come back tomorrow to find out what I have planned for everyone. You really cannot afford to miss what I have to say. It is the most important thing I will have done on the site since I started and I imagine it will cause much discussion and controversy. Really, not sure how I’m going to break the news in the best way, but I’ll let you know tomorrow.

Garry;
You may still win the competition – lol
And deserve to as well after all of the hard work you have put in over the last three weeks – the community is really taking off and no doubt you have been a guiding inspiration to many off us.
Enough gushing, you have a great xmas m8 now, ya hear!
Austin.
Wow Garry. Surprised you’re not taking part, but family is a more valuable thing than spending all day at the computer. It’s like Austin says, you might even win it anyway.
I’m looking forward to what you’re gonna offer us tomorrow then.
Interesting idea about the alerts. Have you tried yahoo site explorer. It tells you how many inbound links a website has as well.
Very useful to see where other people are getting their traffic from.

If gary took part he would rip us apart! lol
The traffic his blog would be producing now would be fairly i would imagine, students go flocking here everyday.
I have been generating some good traffic from the giveaways, i have put up a list on my blog of the really hot ones at the minute.

Hey Garry,
Great post mate.
I will definately be adding google alerts to my account, what a great tool. As you rightly say, the fastest way to success is to find someone who is already achieving the results you desire. It’s then simply a case of finding out what they do and use the same model.
The Warrior forum is a place to visit on my also ever growing to do list. I know it’s extremely active and building a presence there is a great way to raise your profile. But as Alex said, no pimping. You must add value!
I was laughing to myself when you mentioned the videos in the ppp. It amuses me too that we have this $47 product available on list building and yet it seems so money people haven’t watched the videos!
So if you are reading this and you haven’t, watch them! It’s all about taking action.
Garry, enjoy your time ‘off’ over xmas, you deserve a break
Who knows though, with the ground work you have put in place already, you have a great chance of winning the prize.
btw, I have sent you an email about another matter, send me a quick reply today if you can.
Anyway, going to check out Google Alerts now but I will be back tomorrow!
All the best
Mark

Google Alerts and RSS feeds are a huge time saver for me right now! (and a great means of competitive intelligence as you stated)
Have a Merry Chistmas Garry.

Hi Garry,
Dropping in today to see what bits of wisdom I can find on your marvelous site! Thank you for being so generous and informative.
I have left a little holiday post on my blog for you, and all the Alex coaching tribe members. Everyone come by and take a look.
(For those of you not on my blogroll, leave a comment, and it will be done!)
Kindest regards, and the happiest of holidays to you Garry!

Hey Garry
Wow, impressive post mate. Great stuff about he warrior forum and using Gary’s planning ebook. I totally agree with you that we all students should be taking sometime off over Christmas as this is one of reasons why we joined our o’ great mentor Alex.
It’s all about lifestyle and you work hard everyday so that you can afford to take time off when you want, when you like and do they things you enjoy.
So yeah, havea wonderful time off and I look forward to hearing from you after the new year and the next issue of the newsletter.
Oh and Happy Christmas and New Year as well
Don’t think we’re going to get any snow this year will we? Think we had it a bit too soon lol
Nigel
Hey Garry
Terrific Post, I kinda just lost a bet. I had just emailed another student stating that I can bet on who will win the competition. Well you just blew me out of the water. I had it down to three students and you leading the pack.
I, like you will not be participating just too much going on at this time unless some miracle happens. Doesn’t matter anyway as I would not have put myself in the top three that I selected.
Anyway to you Garry and all other students that may read this have a Very Merry Christmas and a terrific New Year.
Hi Garry,
This is a truly intriguing post. I hope you’re not going to over-extend yourself with your most controversial post yet. I remember an early post where you wrote ‘this has to work’. I really hope this does work for you, because you’ve put so much into our community to make Marketing With Alex such a success.
Frankly I don’t know how you’ve managed to keep up with all the posts on your blog. You are really the ‘Iron Man’ of our community, and as for the $1000.00 dollar prize I just hope you win, and the next prize too, although I am still going to compete.
Making Christmas a priority is sensible. More small businesses fail because of family disputes than any other reason, but I won’t go into that here because that’s my other hat!
As I live in Turkey Christmas will be pretty low key here, also we’ll be eating Hindi which is Turkish for Turkey, but the New Year is big!
I like your idea of using Google alerts, indeed the mighty Google really is an ally of those who wish to add value to the Web. Have you noted how I am using Google tools to analyse your SEO?
Thank you for taking the trouble to visit my humble blog, given just how busy you are. Your visits and comments are always appreciated.
With warm regards,
Stephen

Gazza,
GREAT post, as usual. I truly do hope that you win the comp. You deserve it and the circumstances that you described when we all started make me hope that for you doubly.
Anyway, a word of CAUTION FOR EVERYBODY…
WARNING! – WARNING! – WARNING!
This is about the WF (as mentioned by Gazza above). If ANY of you go in there all gung-ho and start pimping then let me tell you this right now…
YOU WILL GET TORN TO SHREDS!
I have been a member of the WF for many years. There are some big hitters who go there and there are some very useful and kind people who also go there. But…
… there are also a number of VINDICTIVE and nasty types who love nothing more than to cut newbies off at the ankles or knees. They use their “superior” knowledge and intellect to BEAT UP on newbies. To some of them it is a blood sport.
I have seen it happen over and over and over. That is why I only go there occasionally now and I rarely post in there. No, I haven’t been a victim but I have seen plenty of people get shot to pieces and their carcasses get picked over at that forum.
Notice I only refer to it as the WF? I don’t want to attract the predators in that crowd here. Over here everyone is learning and everyone is helping each other. If we start seeing vicious, critical responses from formerly unknown people then they will almost certainly de drifting over like Vikings from that place.
Many of the predators at the WF don’t even have the courage to use their own names. They will be “Dragon-slayer” or “Ultimate-commando” or some other equally galling persona.
So, I have WARNED you. Alex Jeffreys has WARNED you. Do NOT go there and PIMP. You will definitely attract traffic but it will be traffic that you will not want.
Finally, Gazza, after all that… thank you so much for promoting my “Time in Motion” ACTION Planner. It has only been 2 days and already 20 or more students have downloaded it. I haven’t pushed it yet but I will be next week as we March towards 2009.
Regards and best wishes to everyone.

Hey Garry hope you have a wonderful xmas and new years. Im relaxing in the mountains doing as little work as I can. Going to be working so hard in the new year.
Till then take it easy man.
Oh yeah cant wait for your suprise today!

Garry,
Have a great holiday season! Thanks for all you have done for our group. I have been unable to do as much as I would like because of family and holiday obligations so I certainly admire your committment to family. In the long run that is what matters most. In the long run, what you give up by pulling back in the competition will come back to you multiplied!

Another quality post Garry
- although disagree with you about the WF and couldn’t agree more with Gary (Simpson) about it. It can be ruthless. Caution is needed I think. As a non-techie I have found it hard to even understand some of the posts there because of the shorthand technospeak and prior knowledge assumed in how-to-do underground strategies and scripts that are promoted. Made the mistake of posting once and asking for more info as I hadn’t understood…. Well worth a visit but if you don’t understand what you’ve read, I recommend you come back to the friendly group here or the Fortunate500 forum http://fortunate500.ning.com and ask there.
Best wishes for the post tomorrow – I can hardly wait! And thanks for inspiring me to write an AboutMe page on my blog!
Susan
Hi Susan,
RE POST #’s 12 (mine) and #15 (yours) and Garry’s original message…
Thank YOU for backing me up here. I went way out on a limb saying what I said and I half expected to be crucified for it. But I did it for the good of everyone here.
The simple fact of the matter is this…
… over at THAT place there are some VERY experienced people who use their vast knowledge as a WEAPON against those lesser tech-minded or experienced folks. They browbeat and criticise “innocent” newbies just because they CAN. And they go out of their way to make people look like FOOLS. And some of the women are the worst. They should be ashamed of themselves for the rudeness and extreme arrogance that they display so often.
I would love to engage them in my area of expertise and then I could make THEM look like the idiots that they try so desperately hard to make others look and feel. EVERYONE has areas of expertise. They are not icons of intellect in EVERYTHING. But they don’t see that.
That is NOT to say that they are ALL like that over THERE either. Far from it. There are some really decent people there anbd some of the biggest names in IM. But there are a half dozen or so “ganger-uppers” who maul in unison. And when they smell blood they all come running to join in. It’s pathetic.
We have a caring and sharing community here. I would hate for it to become like THAT place. I know the names of the main offenders over there. I have them written in an old journal on a watch list. If I start seeing spewing of anger and ridicule here then I will identify them. I just hope they stay over there in their own little private Coliseum of Internet Bullies where they all hang out together.
And it is NOT the only forum where this behaviour is evident. Alex knows what I mean here as he has been targetted for hatred and extreme ridicule by other “people” at another “forum.” Hence, my very early post on “Buzzards and Seagulls” over at Gary-Land.
More harsh words, I know. But I HATE bullies. We are doing well over here. We don’t need to attract the detritus from other places. So again… PLEASE TREAD CAREFULLY. Do NOT pimp on other forums or blogsites.
Somehow I just know that this is gonna end up getting cut and pasted in the worst possible place. Oh well c’est la vie.
Regards
Gary SIMPSON

Hi All,
Thanks for the kind words from everyone. Really appreciate it. And Happy Christams to you all too.
>Adam – I like that term ‘competitive intelligence’, but then that’s exactly what we are doing using the techniques.
>Keith – sorry you lost the bet, lol. Amazing, that only a few short weeks ago I was getting zilch all traffic and now people are talking about me winning a Traffic Generation competition. Even to be mentioned and thought of in that way at all, just shows to all how we can come such a long way in such a short space of time if you put your mind to it.
>Stephen – ‘Iron Man’, lol and thanks for featuring me in your video –interesting stuff you had to say and yet something else I’ll have to find out more about. So much to do and not enough time !
>Gary – Warning appreciated and email actioned. I’ll reply a little later to you.
>Susan – Thanks for reinforcing Gary’s comments although not sure about what you mean about ‘disagreeing’ with me about WF. I didn’t endorse it or anything. In fact I stated ‘I haven’t done anything in it yet’ just stated it looked useful. I certainly didn’t know anything though about the negative aspect that both you and Gary have highlighted and will approach posting in it with caution now. Thanks for that.
Hi Garry,
Gee, I’m so glad you did that. (I note the spelling too – LOL! Leave it!) I reckon we have saved at least a dozen people from a death by a 1,000 cuts. They are SAVAGE over there and I was really worried for the newbies. I have been a member there for many years but I usually just lurk and watch the blood flow.
I defended a “pimper” over there once and it got ugly. I knew he was pimping and spamming but the reaction he got made me step in and I took a few scalps of my own. Hence, my retreat.
You can learn a fair bit on how NOT to post simply by watching in the shadows, so to speak. It can be very educatuonal just to read and watch the decent ones and write down the names of the cretins.
Thanks mate. You showed excellent judgement.

Hi Gary,
great info on your blog . I will be using some of it to put up my Rss feeds and be using google alerts. Lost all my first blog when some of it got overwritten by a plugin which I uploaded. was tearing my hair out trying to get it fixed but had to conceed defeat and start again. So i will not be even bothering with the comp. Just going to improve my blog and get loads of traffic. Being an old “newbie” It takes me a lot longer to grasp things and to implement them but i am getting there. As for the warrior forum. I agree just sit on the sideline and watch. I ahve been a memeber for years but just visited to watch. safer realy.
thanks

Hello Garry,
Holiday greetings to you and yours. I really enjoy reading all the comments put forth by our student community and may I add that I am learning quite a lot in the process. I just got a break from jury duty and I am picking up where I left off two weeks ago.
Happy New Year everyone.
Tony
Garry,
You should go with what makes sense to you. If I’m first on your list, or 499th – it makes no difference in the grand scheme of things. All I try to do at MY site, is provide useful, quality content with a bit of humor thrown in. I’ll leave it up to other people to tell me whether what I’m providing is of value.
Have I helped people? Yes, I enjoy helping people where/when I can. Do I want recognition for my efforts ? No — I ‘know’ when I’ve helped someone..it’s internal recognition.
We are all feeling our way. Some are farther along than others. For me, I have a heaping plate of tasks to accomplish. Right now, trying to figure out how best to implement a blogroll that recognizes those who post, while not offending any of the others who would like to post but don’t have the time — well, I’ll put that one on the back burner.
It is not my intention to alienate anyone or in any way throw cold water on the blogroll dilemma that you face.
I say go with your gut – I’m sure people will let you know soon enough whether you’ve implemented the popular solution.
That being said, you are a tremendous contributor to this group – I know it and
so does everyone else. Deep down, YOU should feel ok with yourself, my friend !
Cheers,
Dan
Hi Garry,
Looks like you have some very specific opinions on this topic. There are certainly some front runners in our pack … those that have more experience and are using it. Personally, I’m not one of them but I do what I can.
What’s important to me is how those with more experience have been willing to help those of us with less. So however you want to set up your blogroll is your decision and your right.
I appreciate all you do,
Debbie

hello my fellow students! you guys remember the hare and the tortoise story. I’m so impressed by your blogs but have been very slow on the technical part on my end. If your like me don’t get discourage by these guys, they will soon be eating our dust!
