Inspiring posts by all and an entertaining read too, thank you.

It's an honor to be a member of this community.

Especially thank you Alex and Garry for everything that you're further extending ongoing to all MWA 2.0 students.

Together, or not at all.

I am glad Alex mentioned this post, Gary. I am about at the same place you were. I feel overwhelmed at times, but am determined to move forward. I keep my journal in my head (yes, I know a big no-no)I see how far I have come, and it makes it a bit easier to keep at it.

Thanks for all your encouragement. I will know I have made a bit of success when Alex comments on my blog.

OH MAN! I could have easily written this piece myself. Every single one of these barriers is one I am struggling with.
Every single one.
Looking at them through your eyes is shocking to say the least. Internally I knew I had a problem with all three you mention here but only now, seeing it on my screen, in balck and white, is it starting to sink in.

I'm going to have a rough time pushing through these but thanks to this post I know what I must do. It's probably much like going to the dentist for a root canal without any sedation - I know it's inevitable, I know I'm going to do it, but it's scary nonetheless. And I know I'll still be in one piece after this and I'll even be thankfull for going through with it.
But for now it still feels overwhelming. Oh well, I might as well just face me demons and slay them sooner rather than later, right?

Here goes...

(I'll be posting about this on my blog http://www.GilsCorner.com)

Hi Michael,

There's a few of us that have admitted to previously been perfectionists and have got over that, LOL. I too was one that feels everything need to be perfect before I did anything, but now I apply the 80/20 rule. I rather get something going and like you say, revisit it later to fine tune them if needed. You make far greater progress that way.

Hey, Michael you may have missed the initial boat of getting on many of the Student Blogrolls but you've been on mine on the overflow page for ages. But now I've decided to promote you to FRONT-PAGE positioning in the 'Most Active Blogs' section on the left-hand side. I've popped across this week to your blog a few times and I can see the value you are adding there plus the many usefully comments you have added here.

Keep up the great work. When I've caught up with everything on my site after my site problems yesterday I will post over on your blog plus I need to email you as well.

This is an awsome post Garry. All of us go through some sort of barrier each and every day.

Just look at how few videos were actually made for a chance to win $3000. If that isn't enough money to motivate people to get out of their confort zone, I don't know what is.

For me I always had to have everything just right or perfect. Now I know that it just has to "be." As long as I get my projects up and running, I can come back and tweak it later.

For someone who feels they have struggled a lot, you sure seem to hide it well. You have been failing forward very fast indeed by postioning yourself ahead of us students and will have just that much more leverage when Alex starts his coaching program again.

I have not been put on many of the other students blogrolls as I have missed the boat in that department. I am trying to offer free graphics, ebook covers, and such to other students. If this can help with your newsletter, please let me know.

We all will have struggles but it's the struggles that make our strengths stand out.

@Dean,

Thank you very, very much for what you say. I'm so glad you helpful for you and it's really nice to know that my account of my own journey and experiences are of benefit to others. It is exactly what I want my blog to be about.

And I think every single person has doubts. It's part of being human and the first step in overcoming them is recognising and acknowledging them. You have taken that step here but saying that you are 'scared' and well done for that. Good luck in the niche of video web commercials.

@Vince,

Thanks for pushing people my way regarding the Camstudio Tutorial Video. Glad it is of help to people.

I'll have to go and grab that report you mention as well.

@Keith,

Glad my post could be an inspiration to you.

@Guy,

Well Guy you would never believed from you own video that you were nervous in doing it and apprehensive. It is a terrific video and I'm going to go across to your site and ask a few questions about how you did it but you can certainly see your flair picked up from behind the camera as a producer!

<blockquote>
"you seemed to have taken the biggest leap because if I’m not mistaken it was your vid that was up first for the competition"
</blockquote>

Yes and think you are right Guy, but then once I made the decision to do it I just went for it. But it did take me 3 days to do from start to finish !!

@Tommy,

<blockquote>

"I do believe what you are doing just now is brill and before long everyone will know who Garry Parkes is ….."
</blockquote>

I do hope so ? that's my plan for World Domination, LOL.

@Paull,

I think you are exactly right -

<blockquote>
"It seem this journey were all on, is not just a training course to turn us into marketers, it’s also turning into a voyage of self discovery, not a bad thing in my eyes.."
</blockquote>

And who would of thought that when we signed up? But I guess if you break down what Alex teaches down to its base level; Marketing with no hype and BS then what you are left with is your own personality to get your message across. I think the ones that will go on to be very successful in our group are those that grasp this and get their own personality over in what they say.

Hey Parksey,

it's 5.19am and im about to hit the hay (so to say) but i wanted to pop by your blog quiclky
and tell you i really enjoyed reading your post.

i actually read it on the motorway driving back from london heathrow airport to cardiff,

i took the time to review the students blogs from my iphone,

so cool internet on the go - I LOVE IT.

total addict to the iphone though (doh)

but to what you said in the post, just
made me stop and stare at the thing,

the power of re-planning is just so powerful,
and im glad you get it,

when i have a plan of attack im forever changing it and editing it and swapping it then moving things and re-planning things,

its NEVER set in stone its just a guide for me to take action on the correct URGENT things at hand that will generate a list or income to my business.

im sure you get what i mean,

its a constant juggle that we all face and without planning, we'd have nothing to juggle
and we'd see a lot of smashed eggs on the floor,

this is my 5.21am talk and i better stop here,
i've been working for a few hours on the slide show for tomorrows module 6

the tripple threat affiliate

Im still in the USA time zone right now but i dont want to crack my jet-lag
as later in the week i fly back out to
miami,

but im still knackered right now,

so again i only popped by to say

i think you're doing a KICK ASS job,

i have to say im dead proud and i know you;ve been helping a ton of people out,

your name seems to be on alot of peoples tounges when they talk with me,

and yes i get tons of emails daily !!!
but

you are a prime example of web 2.0

people watching dont be pissed be pleased and model what you see garry doing,

he's kicking my butt in traffic generation
"as he says in his spoof video" Grrrr !!!

okay outta here

5.24am bed calling,

zzzz

Hi Garry,

WOW, what a post to follow on from! Talk about a tough act to follow! :)

I can relate to what you've experienced in a few ways.

My biggest challenge has been with the planning and trying to figure out exactly what it is I want to do. I used up my broadband download allowance for peak period on the 13th of Jan, so it has given me a good chance to reflect on my planning and get it clear where I want to go and how I'm going to get there.

I've got a product of my own, but I broke all the rules, before I knew the rules and now it's time to back track. I need to see if the market really wants it, before I put any more time and money into it. I didn't do the research first. :(

I'm an affiliate for more products than there are days in the year, I think! But there are only a handful that are truly worth promoting.
It was a case of not really knowing how to go about it up to date and hopefully Module 6 will shed more light on that for me.

I can't stand the sound of my own voice and I have a real thing about being on the front end of the camera as well. The photo in the avatar was a big step initially, but I'm well past that now.

Just putting up a blog was a real barrier for me, on the tech side initially. I got around that by going to Expert Wordpress. This was all before the course with Alex started. What I've learned from the excellent tutorials that came with Expert word press has been great. I've still got heaps more that I need to learn and even more that I want to learn!

I have finally found what I enjoy and that is making video web commercials. This is an area I will be going deeper into.

I've found this post to be very helpful by putting it out there for all to know. Now I have to take action and I will be.

It was a great post mate and I really got something out of it and it's reassuring knowing I'm not alone with my doubts, being scared and not really knowing what it is I'm suppose to be doing! :)

Cheers,

Hi Garry,

WOW, what a post to follow on from! Talk about a tough act to follow!

I can relate to what you’ve experienced in a few ways.

My biggest challenge has been with the planning and trying to figure out exactly what it is I want to do. I used up my broadband download allowance for peak period on the 13th of Jan, so it has given me a good chance to reflect on my planning and get it clear where I want to go and how I’m going to get there.

I’ve got a product of my own, but I broke all the rules, before I knew the rules and now it’s time to back track. I need to see if the market really wants it, before I put any more time and money into it. I didn’t do the research first.

I’m an affiliate for more products than there are days in the year, I think! But there are only a handful that are truly worth promoting.
It was a case of not really knowing how to go about it up to date and hopefully Module 6 will shed more light on that for me.

I can’t stand the sound of my own voice and I have a real thing about being on the front end of the camera as well. The photo in the avatar was a big step initially, but I’m well past that now.

Just putting up a blog was a real barrier for me, on the tech side initially. I got around that by going to Expert Wordpress. This was all before the course with Alex started. What I’ve learned from the excellent tutorials that came with Expert word press has been great. I’ve still got heaps more that I need to learn and even more that I want to learn!

I have finally found what I enjoy and that is making video web commercials. This is an area I will be going deeper into.

hey Gary & Gang,

it's been an interesting read
this post and the comments,

BTW - gary

your newer post about "Q" ROCKS,

i need to get myself a Q too (as you know)

anyway back to this post,

i want to thank everyone above
for showing me love,

some haters too - i know but as i
already said without hate there
is no love, (thats life and outta
my hands)

im sure many of you understand
the past couple of months have
been a MAJOR learning curve for
all of us,

including myself as i've been growing
the marketing with you dot com team.

i've made some changes to my business
from what ive read these past two weeks
on my vacation,

i learned that my support staff
had not been doing her job correctly and
so we [let her go] today,

now i have to take on someone to take
her place and im told steve from
mike F's team is happy to jump
onboard with me.

BUT i have hope and im excited to say

next week im meeting up with the wonderful
maria andros that tells me she can help with
my PA & VA skills,

(personal assistant and virtual assistant skills)

and im ready to grow my business
to the 7 figures but it HAS to
be the way i want it,

and thats TOP quality allaround

im NOT going to let sloppy support
take me down - nor will i allow
it to stop me moving forward,

i have TO TAKE "MAJOR" ACTION to
learn how to become a PROJECT
manager ontop of learning how
to become a world class marketer,

PLUS this year im really learning
about business its self

as marketing is just a small part
of business and i want to be a
stratic business builder ontop
of online marketer,

anyway before i ramble on,

message to my students

its been a BLAST teaching you and
im not going to stop -

its time to go over and above now :)

like i just said,

you can't please everyone -

but I do try
i'll give myself that,

you see as i see it

if your a student of mine then
your success is my success,

i have MAJOR plans for this year and id
love to envolve all of you with them,

the internet is changing fast and that
means the way marketing is done online
is changing too,

yep the core principles will stay the
same -

give value - build a list - nurture the list - make money
from your list,

but marketing is changing online as we
know it,

and someone that keeps showing me that
is Rich Schefren,

that guy just BLOWS me away each time we speak -
or when i read one of his reports or read his blog,

and im really excited to have the chance
to fly out to florida next week and
hang out with the schef-mister for a
few days as part of his coaching program,

and the SUPER DUPER cool news is im going
to be a case study for him after he helped
EXPLODE my business in 2008 as one of my
mentors,

I think im one of his top students ?

(not to sure what the crack is yet)

now after the MAJOR growth in 2008
im having to deal with the growing pains,

should i complain to rich about the pains LOL (AS IF)

Im taken it on the chin - its a pain but
(what do i say)

okay,

Im quickly going to reply to a couple of the
posts above,

as gary said - We are all trying to smash three years
of Alex Jeffreys’ Internet Marketing experience
into 3 months. It is far too intensive.

BLOODY well said Gary,

Guys and Gals,

do you know how many times i have failed
over the past 3 years,

it kind of makes me feel SICK thinking
back to the place i used to be, LOST.

I failed OVER AND OVER
infact i failed more than all of
you trust me on that one.

I wonder if people just take this
as words,

or if they really understand it has a
meaning behind it,

"fail forward fast"

when you follow what i say and teach
you are going to see FAILURE,

sorry - BUT i've had failure all the
way through my online rise to success

and NEVER would i blame my mentors
i would push forward knowing they
had been there before me,

it seems to be a trate of success that
failure,

but when i said fail forward fast it
MENT yep your gonna see some of it,

sorry, <<< should i say sorry ?

i dont think so, as its the law of
success,

but anyway,

i understand that

its so easy to loose sight and get over
worked on tasks that are non produtive
and you feel lost,

and thats why i put in module #1

forward to basics,

most people are not even at the basic
level and wanna skip right past it,

(thats a BIG no no)

just take a look at garry parkes latest
blog post -

http://garryparkes.com/alex-jeffreys/breakthroughs-barriers/

that post made me smile all the way down
the moterway -

- yes i read it on a trip from london to cardiff

listen
if your at the stage of being lost
and over worked with nothing to show
for it,

thats where RE-PLANNING comes into play

** AND THE MAGIC REALLY HAPPENS HERE **

It's when things really start to fall into place
as you've been through the failure, and can make
a plan to get over it,

and yep your right about 500 students being
alot of work for AJ,

im working my little butt off to make this
work for you guys and gals,

what ive come to learn is

all the students are working to there own pace.

still to this day i get emails with new students
blogs being created.
and they tell me sorry for the delay as they
are falling behind due to personal stuff,

its life right,

what ive learned through my years is
there is no step by step (take a leak)
press a button systen

i've never been passed a step by step blueprint
to make money by my mentors,

i was given the foundations to build an online
business and i then

run off failing over all the time :)

but what they said to me is this,

its about being you !!!

create your story and sell it. nuff said,

i've done it over and over - and thats what i've
been teaching my students,

if you go through the course again - you'll pick up some golden nuggets
that you missed on the first time around, i know it,

- just one nugget can transform you into a diffrent mindset,

one quick quote and im done

"business is easy; people make it hard"

Replys

@Gary

Quote
(the so-called “HELP” desk, which I call the “YELP” desk because it is so damn poor).

I laughed at that UNTILL i realised its about my support desk

im sat her with my head down, - i know i can NOT let it get me down
and we are going to be fixing this support
issue.

ITS ON MY A LIST and at the TOP of the list

Im kinda cheesed off with the person that gave [my support process]
as i was told my support would be handled in a way id
be proud off,

i can put it public - im not proud - im pi**ed about it.

i really will keep an eye on steve (the new guy) and helen
who is doing a great job for me,

and we'll grow this support desk into a class act.

untill then - my head is down for sure,

paul i explained on the live calls that you WILL get the A/R series
when i come to that section of the training, which is module #6
the next module :)

its part of the training,

what you have to understand is there are people who HAVENT a clue
what aweber does

let alone an A/R v's a broadcast,

and im going to teach that in module 6 with my tripple threat
affiliate tactics,

thats it - im off to speak to nancy about speaking to my
new support staff steve,

Alex

ps - i want to give a big shout out to the gazza man

@Steve,

<blockquote>
" So well done for once again being a leader"
</blockquote>

Oh, shucks Steve, you'll embarrass me. But thanks for the comments. I mentioned before I am heavily into NLP, via Tony Robbins, and knew the importance of recognising and taking ownership of my own destiny. The first step is accepting 'the issues' and then make the decision to do something about them rather than just think about it.

Same applies to what we are all doing with this Internet Marketing, we all need to take personal control of what we are doing and overcoming the challenges and obstacles we meet. People make no progress at all saying "I CAN NEVER do that", because you know – if you think that way, you are true – "You WILL NEVER do that". I guess at least you were right though and so you can sit down and say to yourself "I told you so". How comforting :-( NOT

@Harry,

I'd like to get to Ireland for a pint – need to make some money first though !!

And of course Harry, you were one of the two students who I acknowledged I had an issue with this way before I "came out", LOL.

Hey, Harry watch out for my post in a few days time as you are going to play a little part in that one too!! Can you guess what it is yet … I've done that before with you and you got nowhere, LOL !! I leave you to ponder over it again ….

@Al,

Sounds as though I WAS exactly the same as you. No problem in real-life standing up in front of 100's or 1000's but come to the Internet and a big block. All I can say Al is when the desire is great enough within you, you will find the internal leverage to overcome it and when you do, you will feel great and think "what was the problem?"

Thanks for your real encouraging words about the blog. It is nice to be thanked now and again and it is much appreciated.

Oh, shucks Steve, you’ll embarrass me. But thanks for the comments. I mentioned before I am heavily into NLP, via Tony Robbins, and knew the importance of recognising and taking ownership of my own destiny. The first step is accepting ‘the issues’ and then make the decision to do something about them rather than just think about it.

Same applies to what we are all doing with this Internet Marketing, we all need to take personal control of what we are doing and overcoming the challenges and obstacles we meet. People make no progress at all saying “I CAN NEVER do that”, because you know – if you think that way, you are true – “You WILL NEVER do that”. I guess at least you were right though and so you can sit down and say to yourself “I told you so”. How comforting NOT

@Harry,

I’d like to get to Ireland for a pint – need to make some money first though !!

And of course Harry, you were one of the two students who I acknowledged I had an issue with this way before I “came out”, LOL.

Hi Garry,

Really cracking post. One of the reasons I gravitate to your blog as well as Gary's is the fact that you both wear your hearts firmly on your respective sleeves, something I have always done myself. I am amazed that you suffered from stage fright, when your posts are delivered with such confidence !

I am the total opposite of you, in a face to face situation I am quite shy, I love the anonymity that the internet allows me. I know that sounds a bit strange given that my name and face is there for all to see and given the fact that a lot of you have seen me making a prat of myself in my videos!

It seem this journey were all on, is not just a training course to turn us into marketers, it's also turning into a voyage of self discovery, not a bad thing in my eyes..

All the best Garry,

Gary,

Great post, I have previously had same problems, for example I registered my 'branded' domain name tommy-mclaughlin.com back in June 2007. Took me till November 2008 to actually get my blog up and running .... partly down to my wedding and offline working.

I have been thinking a lot about the 'self branding' of myself this year ....

For example, Tommy McLaughlin's ..... whatever my product will be ... type thing ....

Not sure where it will take me lol !!

I will this month reveal my face and ten chins lol to the world wide web ha ha ha !!

Tried to refrain as yet so as not to burst the Purple Blog Queen Nikki's 'dreamy thought'

6ft 4" Shotputting Scotsman muscles rippling wearing a Kilt .....

ha ha ha !

I do believe what you are doing just now is brill and before long everyone will know who Garry Parkes is .....

Agree as well with your thoughts about when the mentoring course finishes...

Cheers

Hi Gary,

I have to say it's very brave of you to come forward and reveal your uncomfortableness (did I spell that right?) to the internet public. I can understand where you're coming from since I also had the same issue of showing my mug for all the world to see - well, the online world.
I was concerned that after working in film production for so many years (behind the camera) as a producer, appearing in front of it would make me out to look like a total prat in front of my colleagues and friends, especially when going down the IM route. So I kept postponing the vid until I decided to take that leap, just like you did and just... do it! And the funny thing is that you seemed to have taken the biggest leap because if I'm not mistaken it was your vid that was up first for the competition - so well done for that.
I'm sure that from now on our future vids will be slightly easier to endure and will undoubtedly get better as we progress.
But I do have to admit that I still feel that slight tinge of nervousness when in front of the camera (you should've seen the amount of takes I had to do, blimey!)
Do you feel the same?

regards

Wow, This is what I needed last night. Thanks for the points. It will help me as I continue to fail forward. Being a complete novice to this field it has been quite a step out of a comfort zone. Your article has again reaffirmed that I can do this. Thanks Garry

Hey Gary

I think all the comments say it all, but I have the same problem as you had, sure I stand up in front of hundreds of salespeople and do my presentations without a thought, but put myself on a video or even sit in front of the camera and I'll find every excuse under the sun why I shouldn't. Your blog is looking fantastic and the content is great, your heading in the right direction so keep going.
All the very best to you
Cheers

Hi Garry,
My other "hat" is that of a therapist... hypnotherapist to be exact. I know through my personal life-learnings and my clients that what you see on the outside isn't necessarily what goes on, on the inside.

All the years I have been a therapist, no one has ever said to me "I believe in myself too much. Can you take some away". Everyone I meet, no matter how successful or otherwise has their own hang ups or doubts. I think it is just part of being human.

A great way of overcoming the blocks to our success, is to do exactly what you have done and that is to "own" them. When a person owns something, they are taking responsibility for it and themselves. There is nothing as empowering as self-responsibility I believe.

So well done for once again being a leader. Knowingly or not you have inspired others to show that we are okay and as long as we have good intentionswe need have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.
All credit to you

Gary,

Wow, that's a mammoth comment. Deserves to be a post in it's own right!

<blockquote>
"I feel like a bit of a jerk now for having needled and cajoled you over the gravatar/avatar thing so relentlessly for so long. You should have emailed me early in the piece, mate, and I would have backed off instantly."
</blockquote>

Contrary to you being a jerk, you did me a great favour friend without realising it. Before you started poking fun at my 'Eyeball" avatar I already <b>absolutely</b> knew it was something I had to overcome. The strange thing is once I know something needs to be done I tend to act immediately, and yet I let this fester away like an open wound and kept putting it off. Every time you drew attention to my avatar it was like rubbing salt in the wound, reminding me that I needed to take action. Which was good. When the video competition was announced that was it - I instantly knew what I wanted and needed to do.

The accumulation of everything together got to the point that I had enough desire inside me to say, 'enough is enough, I've let this go on too long and made the decision to rectify it'. You see at any point in time it takes just a moment to make a decision (anyone can do it now), but it often takes a lot longer to have the desire to make that change. So you played your part in this process of me getting to grips with it. (BTW, the avatar will be replaced when I get time, but not just yet as there is another dimension to that, which I hinted at before. Not a personal one I hasten to add).

Hey and the rest of your comment was really interesting. Looking forward to you coming "out" as it were. So will we have to think up another title for you, LOL?

@Jean,

Re. your quote:-

<blockquote>"Who’d ever have guessed you were the shy retiring type? I had you down for a confident, assured person, quite at ease in front or behind the camera. Just goes to show how wrong people can be."</blockquote>

That's just it, I am confident and self assured in 'real-life' and I hope I came over that way on the camera. I think I did with the '<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxCmpO_g0Pg" rel="nofollow">performance</a>' I put on. But like I say I had this mental block about being visible on the Internet. All behind me now though as I have well and truly broken through that barrier. To 'infinity and beyond' as Buzz Lightyear would say in the Toy Story!

Thanks for mentioning about my "<a href="http://garryparkes.com/videos/twitter-domination-twitter-blogroll/" rel="nofollow">Dominating Twitter</a>" video in your post. I didn't cover setting up an account in the video so if anyone wants to find out how to do it get over to Jean's blog and pick up her free ebook.

@Thom,

I think many of us have been guilty of jumping from one thing to another in Internet Marketing and that is one thing I have gotten out of the Alex Jeffreys' coaching.

Do I detect in your comment the same personal dilemma I had to get over or have I misread it? You say:-

<blockquote>
"It has been difficult putting myself out there for me"
</blockquote>

And yet you being in Martial Arts you have been putting yourself in front of people for years. Very similar to my situation; I have no issue presenting in front of hundreds/thousands on stage but when it came to the Internet for some reason that was different. But now I can express my confident self from real-life using any technology and I feel even more empowered by that.

Hi Garry,

I feel like a bit of a jerk now for having needled and cajoled you over the gravatar/avatar thing so relentlessly for so long.

You should have emailed me early in the piece, mate, and I would have backed off instantly. I knew there was a reason but I didn't know it was a psychological barrier thing. I just thought you were trying to p155 us off with that eyeball staring at us all.

When you told me, in private, I toned my teasing way down just to the occasional "poke in the eye" comment. I suppose now, knowing you, that you will probably be going in for some make-up studio shot, or something.

I don't like hurting people. I REALLY don't. I would rather make myself look a fool than anyone else (and I manage that quite often LOL).

Believe it or not, I, too, have had some internal wrestles with things. I know I can be over-bearing. I know people have "difficulties" with me in person. They see me as completely arrogant and that is simply not true. Males, in particular, have this trouble. Women don't seem to feel it so much (er, leave that alone thanks Nix!) but one lady remarked one day, "Gary, you are such a nice person. Until I really got to know you I thought you were an arrogant, self-conceited, son-of-a-bitch ****hole."

That kinda floored me coming from a woman - especially since she was a friend of a friend. Her name was Jill, incidentally. And especially since it was said in a casual setting with a fair number of other people present. You could have heard a pin drop when that got said.

But I took it in good faith and laughed it off. Then, in private, I couldn't stop thinking about it - for days. And I resolved to be a LOT friendlier to people which, in itself, became a problem because they wondered WHAT the HELL I wanted from them and got highly suspicious of my motives.

I have since realised that what other people think of me is really none of my business. They will think what they want to think no matter what and I can never change that so... why bother? It's just messing my head-space and I don't need that.

The other thing that I NEVER seem to learn and the thing that comes back to bite me on the arse or ass - whatever you call it - is that I simply CANNOT help people more than what they want to help THEMSELVES. This has gotten me into SO much trouble over the years. And still does. I must be bloody THICK on that score. I dunno. I just NEVER seem to learn the lesson.

So, I have my own battles going on inside. However, this F500 has been a very good testing ground for ALL of us. We have been very well received and accepted by our own little coteries of friends here for who we are.

I have made some GREAT friends here and you, Garry Parkes, are one of them. Don't forget that mate coz sure as eggs I will eff-up with something one day and you will wonder, "WTF is wrong with you?"

I say continually that we must look into the hearts of people rather than the heads. The heads can be educated but the hearts are generally set. And when you know how a person's heart operates then you can excuse the random incidents of when the head mis-fires coz you will KNOW it was unintentional. Does that make sense? Well, it makes sense to me anyway. That is how I operate. I'm a heart surgeon, not a head surgeon - even though I do a pretty good job of the latter most of the time. Going way too deep on this subject now so... CUT!

I still have a way to go with one particular issue but I can assure you it isn't video as some have been hinting. I have NO problem with that, other than learning how to work the 20 bloody buttons and reading the damn 100 page instruction manual. It has only been a time thing for me. Plus, I am one of these quirky individuals that operates on entirely my own set of values and rules and time frame. That is why my friends call me "The Gazz-Man" coz they know I do things my own way and they know not to interfere with my value system and they really enjoy watching what happens when somebody actually manages to do that.

In fact, the scary thing for me is that so many of my personal friends are developing this trait themselves and I hear myself being quoted back to myself. That's a bit disturbing - LOL! Especially, when THEY think THEY are telling me something new and interesting. Oh dear!

Well, I have a final hurdle to overcome and then everybody will see the full me and not just the shadow. Unfortunately, this is coming ahead of time for my liking because of these bloody RSS feeders that so many people now have.

In closing, might I also add how delighted I am to see Nikki showing some more of her obvious talent - aside from the VERY obvious that is. LOL! I spotted that from the first week darls. I thought to myself, "self, there is something big inside this one."

OK. Monologue over. Signing off. Sorry if it was too self-aggrandizing (That is part of the problem) or boring and if I embarrased you Nikki, I am sorry.

Thanks Garry for providing this opportunity for us all to "explain" things.

Hi Garry,

I feel like a bit of a jerk now for having needled and cajoled you over the gravatar/avatar thing so relentlessly for so long.

You should have emailed me early in the piece, mate, and I would have backed off instantly. I knew there was a reason but I didn’t know it was a psychological barrier thing. I just thought you were trying to p155 us off with that eyeball staring at us all.

When you told me, in private, I toned my teasing way down just to the occasional “poke in the eye” comment. I suppose now, knowing you, that you will probably be going in for some make-up studio shot, or something.

I don’t like hurting people. I REALLY don’t. I would rather make myself look a fool than anyone else (and I manage that quite often LOL).

Believe it or not, I, too, have had some internal wrestles with things. I know I can be over-bearing. I know people have “difficulties” with me in person. They see me as completely arrogant and that is simply not true. Males, in particular, have this trouble. Women don’t seem to feel it so much (er, leave that alone thanks Nix!) but one lady remarked one day, “Gary, you are such a nice person. Until I really got to know you I thought you were an arrogant, self-conceited, son-of-a-bitch ****hole.”

That kinda floored me coming from a woman - especially since she was a friend of a friend. Her name was Jill, incidentally. And especially since it was said in a casual setting with a fair number of other people present. You could have heard a pin drop when that got said.

But I took it in good faith and laughed it off. Then, in private, I couldn’t stop thinking about it - for days. And I resolved to be a LOT friendlier to people which, in itself, became a problem because they wondered WHAT the HELL I wanted from them and got highly suspicious of my motives.

I have since realised that what other people think of me is really none of my business. They will think what they want to think no matter what and I can never change that so… why bother? It’s just messing my head-space and I don’t need that.

The other thing that I NEVER seem to learn and the thing that comes back to bite me on the arse or ass - whatever you call it - is that I simply CANNOT help people more than what they want to help THEMSELVES.
@Mark,

Thanks for the comment.

I'm sure you'll get to the point of putting up a video 'starring you' soon. I just decided one night, that's it, I'm doing it. And considering no one had even seen my face at the point it was a big step. But once I decided there was no going back, I would now do it again and again without giving it a second thought.

@Nikki,

It partly explains the avatar thing in the 'early days of the blog' as it were. However, it doesn't bother me in the slightest now. How could it when I feature in a full blown movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxCmpO_g0Pg , LOL. I will get round to replacing the avatar at some point as like I say I'm 'entirely over' any issue I had with 'revealing' myself to the world. The avatar is just not top of my priority list at the moment. I will actually put up another post about avatars soon as there is another more important, more practical thing about their use merely than showing a face, but I'll come to that another time.

You surprise me that having your video on the screen "is a big one to overcome" for you. I'm sure when the time comes you will have a great debut.

@Dean,

Yeah, must admit there were a load of technical challenges for me too, getting my video filmed and published. But I knew I would get over all of them, just that it would take time. The biggie for me was the mental block I had about it all, but that is well and truly behind me now and like you I am already planning more videos where I am featured as well.

In total I actually recorded a total of 10 videos and they are on my YouTube Channel at http://www.youtube.com/GarryParkes1

I also have some that are longer than 10 minutes and thus not able to be loaded on YouTube and are on Viddler at http://www.viddler.com/explore/GarryParkes/videos/

Right that's it for me tonight. I catch up with any other comments tomorrow
